Back in 1988, Marshall debuted The Guv’nor, the original British amp-in-a-box pedal that set the bar for all distortion pedals that followed. Marshall is reissuing this venerated stompbox to commemorate the company’s 60th anniversary. The rebooted pedal offers a direct, one-to-one copy of the original, right down to the iconic graphics, robust metal construction, and individually colored control knobs. Most importantly, this reissue delivers the same growling, snarling bite as its predecessor. If you want to put the sound of a cranked JCM800 on your pedalboard, The Guv’nor is the right tool for the job. This effects pedal boasts a familiar control set, with a flexible 3-band EQ, plus Gain and Level knobs, for dialing in your sound. You also get an effects loop, a standard footswitch, and a red LED status indicator. There’s a reason why players scour the Internet looking for ’80s-era The Guv’nor stompboxes.
